MP David Taylor visit Working Links in Coalville

addressing the issues facing unemployed people

Employment organisation Working Links welcomed David Taylor, MP for North west Leicestershire, to their office at Unit 2, The Whitwick Business Centre, Coalville recently . This offered Mr Taylor a vital insight into the essential work they are doing in the area.

Mr Taylor saw how Working Links specialises in changing communities by addressing the issues facing unemployed people. The organisation demonstrated the Pathways to Work and Flexible New Deal programmes which they deliver on behalf of the Department of Work and Pensions. Co-funded by the European Social Fund (ESF) the programmes help people on jobseekers allowance and health related benefits back into sustainable employment.

By working closely with local employers, Working Links provide key employability skills training to match the needs of these vacancies. And coupled with one to one support, jobseekers have secured many of these jobs.
Operations Manager Andrew Walsh commented “ Many people have been out of work for some time and are not sure where to begin. We offer the right advice and guidance each person needs to give them the confidence and skills they need to return to work."

Mr Taylor said, “'Although national indicators give us hope that we have weathered the worst of the economic storm, the effects of the global recession are still being felt on our local streets and unemployment could increase for some time to come.

“In these circumstances, re-skilling for the changed economy which is about to emerge is absolutely crucial; it was encouraging to see how intensive training, support and advice is preparing today's jobseekers for tomorrows new jobs.”

Working Links treats each jobseeker as an individual and provides tailored support packages to meet each client’s needs. Since its launch nine years ago, Working Links has helped more than 120,000 people into employment across the country.
