Fire Authority Urged to Think Again on Moira Closure Proposal"a totally inappropriate thing to do"As decision day on the future of Moira Fire Station looms large, local MP David Taylor has made a last ditch plea to the Fire Authority to “Think Again” about their closure plans. After a year of controversy and consultation, the Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Fire Authority is due to make a final decision at its meeting on Wednesday (9 December). David Taylor MP said “Closing Moira Fire Station would be a totally inappropriate thing to do. Moira and the Ashby Woulds area are expanding in terms of domestic and commercial development and it is essential that it retains a high level of fire cover in the interests of safety. “The LRFA have for several years raised a precept significantly lower than all other County authorities so they cannot now complain they don’t have the cash to keep Moira open. “It just will not wash. The safety of residents, car drivers and businesses in the area around Moira must not be jeopardised. The retained fire staff at Moira have continued to demonstrate unrelenting commitment to our area and their talent, energy, courage and commitment must not be thrown to the winds.
