About North West Leicestershire

North West Leicestershire is home to approaching 90,000 people. The largest towns are Coalville and Ashby de la Zouch. The constituency boundaries are aligned with those of North West Leicestershire District Council and it is made up of the unparished Coalville urban area plus 29 parishes:

Appleby Magna, Ashby Woulds, Ashby-de-la-Zouch, Bardon, Belton, Breedon on the Hill , Castle Donington, Charley, Chilcote, Coleorton , Ellistown and Battleflat, Heather, Ibstock, Isley cum Langley, Kegworth , Lockington and Hemington, Long Whatton, Measham, Normanton le Heath , Oakthorpe and Donisthorpe, Osgathorpe, Packington, Ravenstone with Snibston, Snarestone, Staunton Harold, Stretton en le Field, Swannington, Swepstone and Worthington.

North West Leicestershire has a long history of mineral extraction, with coal, brick clay, gravel and granite amongst the products. All the deep coal mines are now closed, but opencast continues.

It contains East Midlands Airport (go to www.eastmidlandsairport.com) and both the M1 and A42 roads run through it.

The National Forest
The National Forest is a forest in the making, transforming 200 square miles of central England. It covers much of North West Leicestershire which is also home to its administrative offices and visitor centre.
