It has been an honour and privilege to serve as Member of Parliament for North West Leicestershire – my own home area – since 1997.

Whether you voted for me or not, I’m here to represent you and the best interests of our local area to the best of my ability. Both here in the constituency and at Westminster, I do my utmost to take account of as many local views and tackle as many issues as I can.

Backbencher of the Year 2007

It was a real privilege to for me win the title of “Commons Backbencher of the Year” in the Annual Awards organised by Sky TV and The House magazine and decided by a ballot of all 646 MPs.

My citation described me as ‘an indefatigable campaigner, constant attender and independent–minded’.

Having been shortlisted for the second time, it was a wonderful surprise to have won this time and I am most grateful for the support of colleagues in all parties.
